Limit to Dropdown values?
We're creating a sheet where we want to have a column of a dropdown single select type. What is the limit to the number of values? For example, we have hundreds of departments we want to choose from, but have the submitter choose one from that list.. how many can be on the list?

So I did 15,000 options in a Multi-select... It let me enter all of them. It saved and everything. The only two issues I ran into were that it was REALLY slow to load when you click in the cell to use the dropdown, and it is still limited by the 4,000 characters per cell limit.

Hi,
I don’t know the limit because I haven’t reached it. 😉I don't think you'll reach it.
I hope that helps!
Be safe and have a fantastic weekend!

So is there a limit? You say I can't reach it which implies there is one.

The limit is 5000.

@Andrée Starå Did you actually go in and add 5,000 values to a dropdown list, or did you find some documentation on it? I wonder if it is the same for Multi-select. Now I have to try... Haha

@Andrée Starå Haha. It is really easy to populate 15,000 rows relatively quickly in Excel and then copy/paste over to my Smartsheet column properties, and finding out that it was still restricted to the 4,000 character limit was as simple as checking the box to "Select All" in the dropdown. Hahaha

Hi all,
There is not currently a limit of 5,000 values in a single or multi-select dropdown column.
There IS a limit of 4,000 characters in a cell.
Hope this helps,
Kara

@Kara Lumley do carriage returns/lines count as a character?
-
@Tana Perkins I believe so because it is picked up by the LEN function.

Thanks @Paul Newcome!

Hi, I recently tested the limit and it is 20,000 exactly setting the dropdown options using the API.
