See Grand parent in alerts

Since I am a big fan of indenting (even though I havent seen any progress in keyboard shortcut for this on Swedish keyboards...) I often have grandparents as well as parents in my sheets.

When creating an alert to notify someone you can see the affected row and its parent. However I cant seem to expand this view to also include grandparents. Is there a setting for this I am missing?

The easiest way I have found for this is to include a helper column and then pull the grandparent row data into the grandchild row. The column can be hidden to keep the sheet looking clean, and it ensures the grandparent row data is always on whichever row is triggering the automation.

Either with a JOIN function to include the complete hierarchy or just showing what you need.

Thanks both, and allt är bra Andrée, flyttar till Gotland snart :)

I guess I could solve it with a helper column, though in the specific projects I am running currently I am swamped in columns to keep track of different details...

Ill give it a try and see if I can get it managable for other people involved. As long as its only me handling stuff I can keep track of all these fixes, but the collaboration bit in Smartsheet is becoming a hard sell with all fixes...

I don't know if you've seen the message from Smartsheet and the updates recently made to the limits.

You can now have 400 columns so there is plenty of room for all the so-called helper columns.

Its not the amount of columns thats the limit, its peoples capacity to handle all of them that worries me...

Ok.

If you're not doing it already I'd recommend moving everything that you don't need to show in the sheet to the far right and then hide it. By doing so it's mostly out of sight and mind for the users.

That I am doing as a general rule, with these specific projects though I am also using Smartsheet to keep track of installation progress of 200+ doors with specific information that cant be hidden so its a bit of a brain challenge...
