Building tasks in Smartsheet: How to sort by dates instead of parent groups

I'm in the throes of building my first sheet and have finished setting up the dependencies and key tasks I need for my project. Tasks are set up by parent/child groups, based on task type.

Now I want to build out the rest of the year using similar tasks. At this point, I want to be able to manipulate the sheet to look at tasks that may overlap, even if they sit under different parent groups. Sort only sorts the dates within the parent group, not for all dates in the sheet.

Now that I have the building blocks set up, I'm looking for existing webinars or pages that show more on how to manipulate SS while you are building out timelines.

You could build a report and sort by dates. Report sorting ignores hierarchy levels.
