Can you use Groups in Contact list column type?
We have different groups created under user management, for example, email team, marketing team etc. I wanted to know if they can be used inside a column with contact list column type for a project? If yes, how? If not, what exactly is the use of creating these groups apart from workspace, sheet sharing?

Unfortunately, it's not possible to use them in contact columns, but it's an excellent idea!
Please submit an Enhancement Request when you have a moment
The use except for what you already mentioned is for sharing overall, sending messages, and it makes it easier to add/remove members of groups and the sharing associated with the groups.

Hi @Jahdiel Johnson, Not really. I know as of now, they're not allowing that, so I submitted a feature request.

@Andrée Starå is there any way to vote on an idea that has been submitted as this would help me. Especially if it wa a quick way to add all contacts to an assign column.

This would be a big win to have for assigning tasks to different teams and alerting them.

I also submitted, but since the first post was in 2020, I have little hope. I did request an alternative to be able to paste multiple emails from Excel into that contact field and have it behave similarly to the groups. That way I can just keep a file with my basic groups handy to add in one go.

I don’t want to be able to assign to a group but just want the list of names in the drop down to be enforced by the group. IE I’m lazy and just wan to chose one group and have the names appear VS clicking each one

since 2020, is there any update on this new functionality? Smartsheet is being very slow with the enhancement requests. Is there a new way to use group management in cells, aumotations, reports?

I see the the request to allow Groups to be used in Contact lists has not been addressed since initially requested in 2020. Is there a roadmap to add this very useful feature .
