I would like to set a date "Completed" based on a status of " Completed"
I have a status column and one of my choices you can pick is "Completed" . When you pick "Completed" I want to set the date in the next column to the date that "Complete" was selected and I don't want the date to change once it is set unless the status changes from "Complete"

Unfortunately there isn't a good way to do this other than to manually enter a date after selecting Complete. Smartsheet has some solutions in testing, though. Hope it comes out soon because it will be very helpful.

Word on the street is that a Record a date workflow action will be coming soon to Smartsheet. It was announced at Engage 2020. Hold tight cause that feature IS coming.

Thanks, I am new to Smartsheet about 60 days and before I post these is there any word on the street about the following or am I missing something:
Add a note on cell like you can in excel
Limit choice in drop-down list based another drop-down list
Adding people once to task comment so they always get notified so you don't need to @them each time?

- No - no ability to add a note on a cell. But you can add comments to a row as you know. One option we've done is add a note column to add notes about specific information.
- I don't think so. But, do you have a specific use case in mind? I might have some workarounds that might work for you if your user is using forms.
- The following article about conversations indicates that if an @mentioned user responds to the comment then they will get future comments. But not unless they respond.

1 - A little clarity of what I am trying to do. Some of our task are a paragraph long explaining what needs to be done. It would be great if I could have a short description of the task so the row is not really tall showing all the test making the sheet longer but only give the detail of the task if you click on the cell like in Excel.
2 - In my sheet I have two columns one column is "department" the other is "work stream". Based on what "department" you pick the choices for "workstream" are not the same. It would just make it easier for a user to have a shorter list to look at related to their department and less chance of someone picking the wrong "work stream"

What about creating a separate notes sheet with a column for notes and the actual notes and then cell link the note's title so that when a user double clicks on the cell it will load the new sheet with the note?
