Comments Column

I use smartsheets mainly as an issue tracking tool when dealing with contractors. Many of these individuals are willing to type into boxes and info that is needed but are not usually tech savy enought to realize that to post a comment they need to click on the blank cell/bubble in the Comments column. It would be a great help if the Comments column had more visibility option. For example: 1) show as wider column that displays the latest comment, however acts the same when clicked on i.e. the latest comment for the row is displayed and when the comment/black cell are clicked the current comment popup appears 2) add a label to the column for each row "Click to Add Comment" 3) have the ability to change the cell background color

Hi Brett,

I've got your vote down for more visibility of comments, possibly by a pop up, down on our enhancement request list for further consideration by our Product team.

With that being said, you might consider enabling Highlight Changes in the sheet, which will change the cell background of any cell, including the comments cells, that have changed. I agree with the OP. I've seen sheets created with a comments field (just for visibility), but then you lose the tracking component.

I see the original comment was from February. Any update on whether this is being incorporated into a new design feature?

+1 with OP. My users have simply added a comments text column and they manually add a date to each section as it gets updated. Should be able to expand the comments column and place where ever. It should show most recent comment.

+1 for me on more visibility for comments. It has been a struggle to get my users to use this feature.

Adding to that, just the design of the current comment field (the little chat bubble icon) could use a little more "pop". Maybe make the chat bubble a brighter color, or give it a pulsing animation if there is a recent comment?

+1 We added a text column for visibility on the sheet in the row but lose tracking if someone edits the field.

+1 finding an overwhelming need for this as a feature with many folks engaging in one tracking sheet. Is there any progress on this request?

At the very least if the column could be changed via "conditional formatting" this would provide a "workaround" in the short-term.

Hi Shaine,

Being able to see the latest comment text without having to click into the comment window makes it easier to do a quick scan of content.

The comment functionality is great (nicely separated, organised, attachments etc) , but the one bit that's missing is having visibility at a higher level without having to click through.

I've raised an ER, but thought I'd add my voice to the thread as well!

+1 I have this immediate need now. I have a smartsheet where we're using a text column for tracking comments and the entries are getting so large they're getting unwieldy.

Comments with the features listed above would be very, very useful.
