Grouping and Sorting
Hello,
Coming from a project planning background I am used to being able to chose how I group my plans.
Is it possible in smartsheet to group say by who a task is assigned too? I understand the way the indent function works and the way you can filter on "Assigned Too" if I wanted, but for eg I might want to view my full plan but with the assigned too being the grouping.
I am just using assigned too as an example here, ideally I should be able to group my plans by whatever piece of coding I want. Hopefully this makes sense and opens up a good discussion or helps generate new ideas for myself.
Thank you,
Billy

I do not believe it is possible in Smartsheet to auto-child rows based on variable criteria. The closest workaround is using filters to hide rows, or highlighting rows/cells with conditional formatting that meet a criteria for a certain grouping.

An option would be to use the card view. You can make the columns of the card view be any dropdown in your sheet. So you could filter on a project and make each column be assigned to (assuming you were using a dropdown)
Then you would get a view of the project where each column was the person and underneath their name you would see all of their tasks

Billy,
You could also create a Report for each of the grouping levels you want, but you won't have hierarchies.

I also have a need for this. Would like to group by due date, based on items due that week. Right now I'm manually adding "Week of 1/8" "Week of 1/9" - assigned to would also be incredibly helpful. Just adding a "me too" for this enhancement!

+1 for grouping! We are pushing teams to move out of Google Sheets into Smartsheets and this is one of their top concerns - losing the ability to group within a grid view.

I was watching a video from Smartsheets and they were talking about how they use grouping and hierarchy internally. So there must be some way to do this. Maybe through a report?

That just looks like they manually set up their rows for some rows to be children of other rows ..... thats not hard to do but is manual and doesnt look like its somethin changable on the fly from your screenshot.... were they able to easily change it around in the video

I see. No, it was just a screen shot they talked through. Not a demo.
