Displaying report summary data on a dashboard
I have a report summarizing financial data across multiple sheets. The report includes a summary of the total value.
Is there a way to display this summary value in a widget on a dashboard? The metric widget only allows me to select grid data or sheet summary data.

I hope you're well and safe!
Unfortunately, it's not possible now, but it's an excellent idea, and it will probably be possible soon.
I hope that helps!
Be safe and have a fantastic weekend!

Thank you @Andrée Starå. Do you have any suggestions for how to summarize this kind of data across sheets to display on a dashboard?

You could potentially configure the Report to only show the header rows (the bottom setting under "Grouping"). Then you can Publish the Report and embed it into a Dashboard using the Web Content Widget. See the last paragraph of this Help Article, here: Configure Grouping to Organize Results in Report Builder

@jeffreyberman No problem! Glad it worked for you.

Thanks @Genevieve P. This suggestion shows a lot more than just the single data point I am trying to post in the dashboard, but it is a possible solution. It looks like report summary features are coming soon.

Hi there - has this become possible yet?

Hi @Jackie C.
Summary header rows in a Report cannot currently be selected as a Metric for a Metric Widget, no. However you can use a Grouped/Summarized Report either as a source for a Chart or as a collapsed Report Widget.

I would like to have summary rows as a metric widget or to be the source for a chart. I only want to display the summarized header row in a chart but am unable to do so.

If you don't want to display the Report collapsed to show the top line using a Report Widget, another alternative would be to add a Grouping on a column that has the same value through the whole Report (e.g. a Checkbox or the Sheet Name column).
That way you have two summary rows: the top-level header row (that cannot be charted) and the first Grouping level (that can be charted).
Let me know if that makes sense and will work for you!
Cheers,
Genevieve

Smartsheet simply comes up short in so many ways. If I've read the word "Unfortunately..." one time in a response by a Smartsheet employee/consultant in these forums, I've read it 10,000 times. And the amount of time that has elapsed on all of the requests for essential features is just staggering. I will be looking elsewhere now or back to Excel for a much more feature-rich tool with far-better response from their support organization. Shameful.
