Searchable Columns
I am working with a sheet with an extraordinary number of columns and it would be so much more convenient to be able to search the headings to find what I am looking for.
Is this something that can be added?

For this you would need to add a helper row that replicates the column names. You can then use the CTRL+F to search this row, and it should jump you to whatever column you are searching for.
Being able to search the column headers directly though would be a great feature, so feel free to Submit a Product Enhancement Request when you are able.

Thats not going to work for any columns that are not text based or columns with formulas. Can't believe we still do not have this.

@Geilisa You can make this work with columns that are not text based and columns that have column formulas. If you set the sheet up with the solution to output the row number on every row, you can adjust your column formulas to nest in an IF statement that says if the row number "@row" equals 1, output "Column name", otherwise output previous formula. I have done this a few other times before.
Have you looked through the Ideas topic to see if it has been submitted in the new format yet? If it has, then you can vote for it. If it has not then you can submit the idea yourself and others will be able to vote for it.
Edit:
Apparently I submitted the idea back in June and forgot about it. Haha. Here you go:
