Form selection of dropdown list inserts choice with hyperlink
We have a project management Smartsheet where we have about 3 different "standard work" choices - these are selections where the requirements are the same each time. This list may grow later.
On our request form, I'd like the user to be able to select from the selection of 3 different "standard work" choices, and in the project management sheet, a hyperlink be inserted to the standard work specs outline.
Would need it to allow for multiple entries in one cell, each a different link.
Open to totally different suggestions as well!
For example:
(on the request form)
Standard Work?
3D render 360s
3D render Hero Shot
(in the Smartsheet)
Standard work requested: 3D render Hero Shot (link to specs), 3D render 360s (link to specs)

I hope you're well and safe!
Unfortunately, as far as I know, it's not possible now, but it's an excellent idea!
Please submit an Enhancement Request when you have a moment.
As a possible workaround, we could add the link to a so-called helper column instead.
Would that work/help?
I hope that helps!
Be safe and have a fantastic week!

Thanks for the quick answer! Can you explain or link me to a demo of the helper column? (I am still very new at Smartsheets, learning as I go!)
Thanks!

You're more than welcome!
A helper column is just what we call a column that isn't used in the actual process but only as a help to accomplish something.
Make sense?

Yes, that makes sense!
Do you have a suggestion on how I would do that?
- Form would be used to select from dropdown choices in Standard Work column
- Then a helper column has links to standard work specs documents? Can this be automatic, like an if 3D render Hero Shot is in Standard Work column, then Specs column automatically fills with link to that spec?
- OR would it be better to have a key somewhere on the sheet somehow?
Thanks!

Alternatively, could I use a VLOOKUP formula to another sheet that has the links?
-
Were you able to find a solution for this? I would personally suggest that a formula would be a good way to go! This could be a VLOOKUP or INDEX(MATCH to a reference sheet with the links, yes.
Or, depending on the number of links you need, you could have the URLS set up in a Sheet Summary field and then use an IF statement to bring one or the other URLs depending on the value selected.
=IF(Value@row = "Value 1", [URL Number One]#, IF(Value@row = "Value 2", [URL Number Two]#, ""))
Let me know if this would work for you!
Cheers,
Genevieve
