Reference Number of Contacts In Cell

Greetings

Is there a way to reference the number of contacts in a given cell within a formula?

For instance, I have a column titled "hours per person", and a column which is a contact list where I enter contacts. I would like to construct a formula for the "total hours worked" which would be the hours per person multiplied by the number of contacts.
