Missing bar code scanner - Form

The Barcode scan option has disappeared from my IOS when using a form?

Smartsheet recently updated the App Aug 5 however when opening a form I now get a pop up "An Improved experience for this form will be available on newer version of the Smartsheet app" - am I missing something?

Code scanner and location drop were there last week and I successfully tested the QR code and location drop several times to ensure accuracy and use, now on rolling out the form it failed!! what has happened?

Column containing the code is Text/Number as is the column containing the serial number of the asset.

I've confirmed with our team that forms with the new validation feature enabled are not supported directly within the Smartsheet mobile app at this time. This means the app defaults to the Browser form experience in order to allow your submission to go through. However, barcode and GPS features are only available through the app, so they won't be available.

Until we're able to release the new validation update to the mobile apps as well, you will need to decide on which feature is more important: validation or barcodes. Removing the validation from the field (as noted above) should allow the barcode feature to appear again!

I just checked, and I don't have the barcode scan option either which I use for occasional equipment tracking. I hope it comes back soon! I haven't needed it for a little while, but of course now that it isn't there I need it this weekend. Hahaha

I'm able to replicate this when I have a field in my form that has Validation turned on. (Note - if you turn off validation, remove the field, then re-add the field into the form, the barcode and GPS options should appear again in the mobile app).

Confirmed turning all form validations off has returned the location and Barcode to the IOS bar and removed the "An Improved experience for this form... Smartsheet app" pop up. I look forward to the update, for now I'll work around through workflows.

@Genevieve P. What about forms that do not have/have never had validation turned on? Do we need to remove then re-add all of the text/number fields or just the one we want to be able to use for barcode scanning?

Good question. "Old" versions of the form (that do not have validation enabled on any field) should show correctly from within the mobile app. I tested on a few devices with a few different forms and I'm able to see GPS and Barcode options in the most recent version of the app.

@Paul Newcome are any of your forms showing GPS/Barcode options for text/number fields? Are they using other functionalities, such as conditional logic?

@Genevieve P. The answer to both of those questions is "No". None of my forms are showing the barcode option for any text/number field, and some forms have conditional logic while others do not. I am going to be putting in a ticket with support and will update this thread as soon as I find something out from them.

@Paul Newcome I've had a look at an old form running conditional logic on a number of text/number fields, both barcode and location appear on mine n the App. I shouldn't think it impacts but I'm running latest Smartsheet App and IOS 14.7.1 and the old form while currently used has not been modified since 11/20.

I am on the Android version 8.6.0. Fortunately (at least for me) it is only a minor inconvenience, so I am not going to try changing anything until I hear back from support or until an update rolls out that fixes it.

I did forget to mention... I do have access to both the GPS and the QR Code scanner features. It is just the barcode scanner that has disappeared.

Thanks for clarifying! The QR Code scanner should work to scan your barcodes as well.

The icon should look like this:

I tested this successfully on an iOs device - can you test the QR Code scanner on a barcode to see if it works on an Android?

@Genevieve P. That seems to be it. Looks like they merged the two icons so now there is one for scanning and one for gps. Phew. Thanks for your help in getting it sorted.
