Create new gantt chart task does not enter date?

When I'm building a Gantt chart, I want to enter task, duration, and have the bar show up on the gantt chart so I can drag a dependency to it. It seems I have to enter a start date each time, THEN a bar shows up, then I can create a dependency.
Is there a way to enter a default date on each new task without having to manually enter the start date?

No. There is no way to have a "default" date automatically entered. You will have to enter a date for each task as added.
