Toggle hierarchy using something other than the primary column toggle box?

I have a project where the primary column is hidden and used for the calendar feature. I would like to use the hierarchy feature tied to the primary column but without displaying the column or having to scroll side2side to click it.

Is it possible to tie the toggle function to a check box (or something else) to facilitate the expanding and contracting the row?

No, currently there are no other columns that can be used to click-and-control hierarchy in the same way you can in a Primary column with the - and + icons. Please feel free to submit your feature request to our Product team through this form, here!

You could use Keyboard Shortcuts to control your hierarchy, but this facilitates the indenting of rows versus the expanding/contracting feature.

Instead of hiding the column, you could have it be very thin on the left (hiding most of the text but showing the + and -), then use the Freeze Column feature to make sure it's always on the left, if that helps!
