Moving from Test Smartsheet to using real data - Smartsheet
This Community is awesome. Thanks for all the help you didn't know I got from here. This is a question whose answer I can't find.
We recently created a Smartsheet for tracking procurement data. In testing, we've used 15 or so rows. It doesn't appear I can delete the rows and start from Row 1 and have the built-in Smartsheet ID (auto number) begin with 1. The Smartsheet ID wants to count the test data to assign an ID, but it steadfastly refuses to do that.
Can I just overwrite the test data with real data without complications from the test data?
Should I copy the Smartsheet as a new sheet and start fresh?
Thanks for your recommendations.

Hi @Sue Vaeth
I hope you're well and safe!
In short, I think it's something like this.
- Chance the column to a text column
- Save
- Delete the contents in the column
- Save
- Change it back to an auto-number column and change the starting number (maybe not needed)
- Save
Did that work?
I hope that helps!
Be safe and have a fantastic week!

You cannot overwrite a column with auto number/system. How about save as new and under data and formation options, remove the sheet data? Hope that works for you

Thanks. I'm still not able to get the autonumber column to start from 1, so I'm going to live with the sheet as is. Thanks for your suggestions.

Happy to help!
I just double-checked, and it works for me.
What didn't work for you?
Did you change the starting number before saving in the last step?
