Supplemental Database for Attachments

We all enjoy the utility of being able to attach documents to our Smartsheet(s). However, what other solutions may exist (co-exist) to combat this load when attachments creep up into the (literal) thousands? Impact in sheer numbers and growing storage requirements, both come into play.

Looking for a supplemental database solution that could be linked (accessible) from Smartsheet to offload this growing burden.

Anyone cross this bridge prior?
