How can I track deleted rows

Morning All

I need an alert if a row has been deleted and I would like to be able to reverse the deletion if it was incorrect

Any Ideas

You can use a template to get alerted and then use the Activity Log and Snapshot feature to re-create the deleted row(s).

Would that work/help?

While it is possible to get alerts for deleted rows (under certain configurations), Smartsheet STILL does not have the ability to fully recover deleted rows. Sure, they may be able to send you an Excel style backup, but you lose your: Cell history, conversation thread, attachments, formatting, etc etc etc. You 'might' get the raw cell contents back, but that's basically it.

As it stands, 7+ years on and fully, completely, and unequivocally aware, Smartsheet still has the behavior that if someone can edit a single cell within a row of a sheet - they can delete the entire row! And, they can delete it without even getting a pop-up message to ask them if they're sure they want to delete it! (which is funny, because if they try to unlock it they get a pop-up - but if they try to delete it, they succeed without even being questioned)

This is already something that I have submitted several times over the past 7 years.

I was just creating a rollup formula sheet off dates to compare if row counts changed week over week. It would then send an alert if the rows were deleted or less than the previous week. I came looking to see if anyone had built a solution to alert a user when a row was deleted. WOW!

I always build my automations from scratch and never visit the Templates. I had no idea both of these were options. I wonder why they aren't triggers in the Create from scratch section?

I'd love to see a trigger for when a row is added or deleted. I guess I could just make 2 automations but would be nice to have it in one. Regardless, this is a wonderful find and I will use these more often. Keep the surprises coming! 😉
