Hi -

I am looking to build an inventory smartsheet, but am having difficulty setting it up. I am not a guru...

We want to input all of our inventory by barcodes (auto populating and grouping same-type products) into our main warehouse. From there, we want to scan those barcodes and deduct x amount of inventory to our smaller departments (Department A and Department B). We were thinking three different sheets (Warehouse A, Department A, Department B).

The main difficulty I am having is making our barcodes auto-populate with product information (ie. name and amount) and group into one row each upon scanning, rather than a different row/line each time a barcode is scanned. I also can not figure out how to deduct inventory from the main sheet and add it to our smaller departments.

ANY HELP WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED!! :)

Hi @CRXZ

You first need to create a Master Sheet that should contain information about each inventory item, along with the bar code value. Bar code value will be the key identifier.

Next would be to create a transaction sheet that will record all the transactions (i.e. receiving inventory in warehouse, transferring it to departments etc.).

All these transactions should be summed up in the master sheet using INDEX/MATCH to show total quantity received, total quantity transferred and remaining quantity in the warehouse. You can extend this to maintain department level inventory (e.g. how much total quantity was sent to Department A).
