Possible for change cell value automation to append text to itself?

Confirm please if this is possible or as I suspect, not.

Would it be possible in automation to change the content of a text cell from say:

Some Name

to

Some Name - Cancelled

The challenge is that I need the old value to be referenced during the update. Any potential hacks around this?

Yes, it would be possible with a so-called helper column.

1. Helper Column with the Some Name
2. Helper Column with the added value

Add a formula showing the 1+2 combined to the Column where you first had the Some Name part.
