Simplify Approval process

I have a form where the user submits a request and chooses the affected department. I would like smartsheet to assign the task to a specific person based on the affected dept, and send them an approval request. I have created a table in a separate sheet that could be referenced. Is there a function in the automation that can reference a table to assign these tasks?
