How can I sort or group a dated sales report to get it to show monthly or yearly sales?

I have a sheet with dated rows and would like to view it by Month. Is that possible?

I tried a report but did not see that option.

Yes, but you'd need to add so-called helper columns with formulas showing the year and the month in the sheet(s) and then group by them in the Report.
