What is the best way to show a variable timeline in one sheet, with a min and max time to complete?
I have a project with one task that could take 8 to 12 weeks to complete - what is the best way to show that variable timeline?
Should I list the task as 2 line items breaking down the timeline, possibly like the below?
- Complete development - 8 weeks - [official work start date] - [potential 8 week end date]
- Potential additional development time - 4 weeks - [start date of potential additional 4 weeks required] - [potential end date of 12 weeks from official work start date]
Thanks for any recommendations!

Personally, I like your idea of breaking it out like that!
You could have those two rows be Parent-Level rows, with all the sub-tasks below them, if there are any. That way if those additional weeks aren't needed you can either delete that row (and it's sub-tasks) or adjust the timeline if it doesn't need all 4 weeks.
You could also use formatting to colour the "maybe" rows a different shade (e.g. a lighter grey) until it's known whether they're needed or not.
Cheers,
Genevieve
