Please add merge! One example use case is wanting to have header rows to segment sections of a sheet. Not being able to merge creates a number of issues, such as:

Long header titles either have to wrap, or the column has to be disproportionately stretched to be visible.
Conditional formatting rules inadvertently impact the blank cells in header rows (e.g., color cell when blank). This forces a workaround of putting invisible text in the blank cells to avoid misapplied rules.
Lack of ability to organize data that needs to span multiple columns or headers that need to cover multiple columns.

Smartsheet: If there is a reason that merge isn't on the roadmap, can you please explain? Otherwise, all of us users are sitting here not understanding why this seemingly basic request has been disregarded for years.

Without merged cells or other options for visual and accessible headers to sections in Grid View, I am unable to use Smartsheet for any of the documents going out to our team. It appears the Smartsheet solution is to create multiple sheets for each of these sub-sections and combine them visually e.g. on a dashboard. Due to this increase of time/labor we will instead continue to use Excel.
