Approval workflow does not have a good "declined" option.
I would like to see an option "when someone selects reject or decline, require a reason or comment".
From what I can tell, there is no option for this.

- Add a comment before Approve/Decline to indicate the reason.Would that work/help?

I have that option on there, problem is there is no way to make it "required" if the employee hits decline.

You can add another workflow that checks if it's empty and send an update request to have them add a reason.
