December Question of the Month - Join the conversation and receive a badge
During November, we had a great conversation about AI, and how it's helping you to work smarter, not harder. We loved reading how you use it with your formulas, to analyze data, onboard new users, or even as a trainer to improve your skills faster. We also received excellent video responses, and you’ll see a selection of them very soon!
Now, it’s time for your last question of 2024. Let’s earn badges and points while getting to know your peers, shall we?
If you could become an instant expert in one topic, what would it be?
A new year is approaching, and the sky is the limit with this one. Let us know which topics you would love to know a lot about, and maybe even get inspired to start making that dream come true in 2025. 😁

Great question!
If I could become an instant expert in one topic, it would be law. My dream job since I was a teenager is that of a lawyer. I would go ace the exams and start practicing law as soon as possible! I would love to have my own practice, and maybe my 2 sons could eventually work there and eventually take over. My oldest already shares the passion. My youngest would probably want in too.

If I could become an instant expert in something, it would be Control Center. I am going to be doing the Smartsheet University courses on it, but it would be nice to suddenly know the ins and outs instantaneously!

If I could become an instant expert in a topic, it would be communication - more specifically, languages. I can only imagine the doors that would be unlocked if I was able to speak a few dozen global languages. Beyond the obvious benefits from a business perspective, being able to communicate with many different folks from all walks of life would be an incredible way to connect with people and have a deeper understanding of culture and norms.

I would want to be an expert on Health - getting healthy and staying healthy. There are so many conflicting "experts" out there, would be nice to know the truth, uncluttered by industry/financial interests.

WOW, this is a good one. My real answer would be the same as @Will Duplex, but I don't want to just say "ditto", so my secondary answer:
Coding. I love business processes and software integration and bridging the gap between business and IT folks, but I can only go so far with very limited coding knowledge. If I could instantly become a coding expert, my work world and career would open up SO much wider. The possibilities could be endless!

I'd combine my personal passion of football (or soccer in North America ☺️) with all things data and become an expert in football coaching and analytics. The ability to understand player data and take the insights it offers to identify the best coaching strategies, tactics, and players would be an instant career pivot for me!

I would love to become an instant expert in football. I love my role as an armchair analyst, but would love to actually be able to learn the different defensive coverages, how to set-up an offense, and wish I had the mind of a QB. 🏈

If I could become an instant expert in one topic, it would be communication.
Communication is the foundation of many principles and it is the bridge that connects them.

I am going to say something a little different. I would like to be an expert at my hobby of sculpting. I have mostly made clay figures for family members(for holidays), I've even sculpted centerpieces for a wedding reception but, I would like to become an expert at it so that I am confident enough to start selling what I make.

So many great answers & comments in here!
…I'd love to be an instant expert in history. (Like, all history - which I know a big big thing 😀) The little bits of history I've learned help to put all kinds of current events in context, and helps make a little bit of sense of things when the times start to feel extra crazy. So, I wish I knew and retained a lot more history than I currently do.

What a great question and I am loving all of the answers and comments here so far. If I could become an instant expert in one topic, that topic would be programming and coding. I actually began studying this back in the days of Cobol and Fortran but then life got in the way of pursuing my dreams (not that I am complaining). But it would be great to be an instant expert in all of the newest, latest, and greatest programming and coding languages. That would be a great way to ultimately round out my career before retirement. 😀

Since I have gotten older, I have developed quite an interest in plants and dirt. I would love to become an expert on the perfect soil combos for my indoor plants and how to best prep my yard each year for the best garden. I have applications on my phone and a large reference library of books to thumb through at home, but I would love to have that knowledge tucked into my brain like a card catalog ready to pull whenever needed.

probably some martial art - kung fu etc.

If I was to become a SME on just one thing that would be hard, as I want to know about everything. One thing I have been wanting to learn in the business world is business architecture. Seeing the business from the lens of not just focused on IT and transforming requests into processable functions, but how to make the business better.

If I could become an expert in anything I would love to become an expert in foraging. It is a skill I absolutely do not have and I am too afraid to try due to the consequence of being wrong resulting in a hospital visit (or worse). Plus if I could go out knowing exactly what is safe to eat I would be able to save some money on groceries.
