Can you use Groups in Contact list column type?

I would love an update on this.
Contact List's are so key to so many of our sheets that it's candidly mind-boggling that the process to add people to a Contact List is tedious and in 4 years, nothing has been done about it. Hard not to be critical when you see all these new things coming from Smartsheet but key functionality and quality of life functions are ignored for years.
