This would be extremely helpful. We collect volunteer reimbursement forms via Smartsheet form, and it can take a while for volunteers to fill out the form. If they need to take a break between submissions, they would lose all of their progress.

Please add this much-needed feature to the roadmapโ€ฆsome forms can be quite lengthy to fill out all in one sitting and should the user lose internet connection while completing the form, it would help to have auto-saving of the draft or any recoverable draft of the form to avoid having to fill it all out again. Unfortunately, this has happened to our users before and it can be quite frustrating.

Forms are sometimes lengthy and people need to collect information to complete them. Currently they have to submit mid-way and we need to set up update requests or share the underlying sheet in order for them to update/complete the form. Dynamic Views are great as a workaround but require a bit more training to use for most that are not in SS everyday. It would be ideal if there was a save function for users to save work and come back to complete then submit. We would love this update and it would save our teams a lot of time!

Being able to save and work on later is nice when I get busy or have to jump into something else without having to leave that tab open.

We NEED something like this and can be considered a hurdle to some people to actually complete a form enough to submit. We even have to design our existing forms with this in mind so we end up not even capturing all the information we need

Weโ€™re using Smartsheet forms to support clinical audit workflows โ€” specifically Surgical Safety Checklist audits. These audits span multiple phases of a procedure (e.g., Briefing, Time Out, and Debriefing), and form completion canโ€™t always happen all at once.

Right now, our workaround is to print a PDF of the form, complete it manually in real time as the procedure progresses, and then have someone enter all the data into Smartsheet later once everything is finalized. This leads to duplication, delays, and increased risk of transcription errors.

Weโ€™d love to see a โ€œSave and Resume Laterโ€ feature for Smartsheet forms that would allow:

    • Users to start a form, pause midway, and return to complete it later
    • Ideally, the form could be resumed using a secure link or by reopening a session tied to the original entry
    • Even a basic autosave or draft mode would be incredibly helpful

This would allow clinical teams to enter information in real time without needing to complete the full form in one sitting, especially when parts of the workflow (like Debriefing) happen much later.

Thanks for considering this โ€” it would be a huge improvement for users in complex, real-world environments!

We use google forms and then the smartsheet connector to do what you are asking

Thanks, Marc โ€” appreciate the suggestion! We hadnโ€™t considered that route, but our current workflow needs to stay within Smartsheet for audit integrity, dropdown control, and internal approvals. Still, good to know that connector can be leveraged that way.

    Hi,

I hope you're well and safe!

A solution that would be perfect for this use case is the premium add-on Dynamic View.
You'd start with the form and have the user fill in the rest, or access it in Dynamic View.

    Would that work/help?

    I hope that helps!

Be safe, and have a fantastic day!
