Happy March everyone! I get excited to tell you about every Member Spotlight, it's true, but this one has some great energy to it. @Alan Miller 11 is not only a brand new Community Champion, he was also nominated by others to be in the spotlight based on his consistent communication and positive vibe (see nomination form below). That’s Community Excellence personified!Â
Read on to get to know Alan better, and don’t forget to say hi in the comments. 👋🏻
Alan is an Executive Assistant at Mesa County Valley School District 51 in Colorado, US. He was first introduced to Smartsheet through his work teammates, including Overachievers Alumni and founding member @Deanna Vandermeer. The first Smartsheet use case came when Alan was in need of an easy and efficient way to have a team of 47 teachers, coaches, and administrators to submit and evaluate resource rubrics. The ultimate goal was for the district to adopt a new elementary literacy curriculum from a list of 12 state-approved resources. Whew, that’s a good problem to start out with!Â
”We built the rubrics as a Smartsheet form (see it here!) so that we could easily identify which resources were our top picks and which could be eliminated from our selection,” Alan says. “This solution has been reused every year for our Instruction Resource Selection Teams.”
Fast forward to now, and Alan’s current favorite feature is dashboards because of the possibilities around reporting data. “I am currently very proud of my Health and Wellness Solution that I built on my personal Smartsheet account,” he says. “I use it daily to help me keep track of my weight loss goals and to monitor my eating habits.”Â
As a brand new Community Champion, Alan says he takes his role as a leader in the Community seriously, and aims to help guide and inspire others to use Smartsheet to its full potential through “contagious leadership.”
“I enjoy the positive energy that the Smartsheet Community brings into my life. It’s a safe environment to connect with other users to share ideas or inspire alternative use cases. I often search for formula-related issues that I’m having, and I can always find a resolution to my problem or at least gain enough of an understanding around what the issue might be so I can solve them on my own.”Â
Looking ahead, Alan hopes to become a Smartsheet Certified Professional by the end of summer so he can begin his Architect learning path, and he can’t wait to return to Seattle for ENGAGE! Outside of his great work, he has many interests that include binge-watching movies and TV shows, researching family history, drawing, painting and writing.
He also loves celebrating his lifelong obsession in costumes, which has spilled over into his professional life in building team culture during Spirit days. We love to see it!Â
Thank you Alan for all you do!
