My idea is to create functionality to be able to send a dashboard snapshot via email from within Smartsheet, both manually and via an automated workflow. Ideally using an HTML format so any links in the dashboard are links in the email.
Smartsheet Dashboards are fantastic and we use them heavily with our project teams and leadership. However, I've received the same request on a regular basis from leaders at multiple companies. "Can the dashboard be sent as a weekly status report to me via email?"
While the publishing feature is useful for folks that want to interact with the data, most leaders want information presented in a way they can view and immediately act. Having to open a browser or link, log in (id and password), 2FA approval/input, then select another link or 2 is certainly tedious for everyone, but is a big waste of time for an executive or for someone leading many projects or programs.
As a result, many leaders request their project manager create weekly status reports which largely contains the information from their designed dashboard. 🙂
Having a way to do this in an automated way in Smartsheet would save project managers a lot of time each week as manual status reports could be automated, and would improve executive efficiency by putting the information in the location they use very frequently through the day, their inbox. 📧
