Dynamic View: Change Source Sheet

  • I agree with all previous comments. This would be an immense addition. The ROI would be invaluable.

  • Not being able to change the source sheet has been a bit frustrating so I definitely have voted for this feature. My use case: I am managing Smartsheet WorkApps for 2 separate (but related) teams. I also have a Dev version and a Prod version so that we can test out new workflows and features without affecting our production version (why is this also not a feature?). In addition I have several views that should be identical except for the column in "restrict view by current user", so I have to replicate everything at least 8 times for the various teams multiplied by the prod + dev copies. Having this feature would save a lot of time.

    YES, I agree 100%!

I've built a highly customized version of the PMO Office template and utilize Control Center to provision new projects. My toolkit relies heavily on workflow automation, formulas, cross sheet references, Dynamic View, etc., to provide a targeted, streamlined end user experience. I would think that access to both Prod and Dev environments would be a standard feature. However, because that critical functionality is not available, our only alternative was to purchase a second Control Center blueprint and duplicate my (Prod) Dynamic Views to create a Dev environment; a significant investment of time and money for functionality that is considered standard industry practice. For what it's worth, my wish list also includes functionality for migrating enhancements built and tested in Dev directly into Prod.

  • I agree with everyone seeming to be in agreement; Smartsheet needs to add the ability to "Change a Source Sheet" within their Dynamic View offering. Smartsheet is charging for this product (I recommended my company to buy it), but now finding this issue tells me Smartsheet did not think this offering all the way through.

  • Please make this an option!

VERY tedious to create brand-new dynamic views for each source sheet. I need the same 8 dynamic views for 13 different source sheets and will have to manually build 104 different versions… which is ridiculous. If I need to change anything on these views in the future I will need to make each update 13 times. When can we expect an update on this?

Tossing my agreement into the ring — I have a plethora of reports that are all the same structurally, and it was so easy to re-direct to a different sheet, and the reports just all update beautifully. But now that I need to use Dynamic View, I can't do the same with Save as New — I'm a little confused as to what the benefit is of SAN?

It would be great to be able to change the source sheet/report within Dynamic View, and then adjust the permissions as needed — and voila! A whole new DV with minimum effort.

Thanks for the great features you give to us — you make us hungry for more!@ 😀

  • + 1! My rules in dynamic view aren't very complicated but there are A LOT of them and they're time-consuming to set up. I could replicate the view but it doesn't have the correct underlying report. Without being able to change the source report, I HAVE to recreate the entire DV with all its tedious rules using a different source (for a number of different views).

  • I would like to add my vote for this functionality. I am building a solution for a client that relies heavily on Dynamic Views. They need to be able to add new business units in the future and it would be great if they didn't have to rebuild the 15 dynamic views used for each business unit. Would be better if the dynamic views would copy with the "Save As" option for the folder/template but if that is not possible it would be good if they can copy the existing dynamic views and just change the source.

  • +1 Please Add this functionality!

  • Please add this feature! It would be extremely helpful to be able to change the source sheet in dynamic view. Thanks.

  • Can anyone from Smartsheet comment on whether this feature is even on their future board? Many Dynamic View users have requested this option, but there is little feedback on whether it is even on the roadmap. Dynamic View is tremendous, but the setup for multiple sheets could be much better if the copy and add a new worksheet option were available. To be blunt, should we get our hopes up that it will be fixed OR live with the extra work required to use a tool (Dynamic View) that we pay extra for but will not be enhanced?

  • I agree as well. I have two rather complicated dynamic views that need to be re-created quarterly and it's very frustrating to have to redo all the work just because of this one issue. Ideally I'd create a template version and then save as new with just a sheet update.
