They re-enabled the functionality for deletion. And I agree, it should delete the person completely if deleted from the account!

Have you all attempted to "merge" the user after the new account is signed in? I often do that versus deleting if someone has a name change. That way their access to items remain the same. The only problem is knowing when exactly that happens unless they contact me for help.

At mininum, congregate all the "deleted" (i.e., former users) in to a clustered "inactive users" group! We're constantly having to manually manage who's active and who's inactive.
