How do I combine an approval workflow and update fields into a single email request?

I have an approval workflow that sends an email to a user but in that approval I would like the user to complete a couple fields of data. Instead of forcing that there is two separate emails (one for approval and one for field updates) can this be combined into one interaction with the user?

I need to combine the approval and update request as well. I need the request approved - and then assigned to a selection on a dropdown. I can create this as 2 emails - but this is going to senior leadership and I would prefer that both could be done in one email...

I agree with Paul - what I would do here is just use one Update Request and have part of what the user is updating be a column that says either "Approved" or "Denied", etc.

If you prefer the Approval Request because of the option of adding actions after a selection is made, you can do a second workflow that has the next actions, triggered by if that column is changed to either Approved or Denied. Does that make sense?
