Importing Excel file to Smartsheet
Hi All,
I have an excel file that I imported to Smartsheet - I have built a dashboard based on this report and it all works great. The issue is, as it is an extract from one of our customer's programs, we get this on a weekly basis, which means I will have to upload it to Smartsheet weekly. I don't want to build a new dashboard every week to represent the up to date data. Is there a way to bring a new report on to the existing sheet so the dashboards gets automatically updated?
I have tried the file - import from excel function but it seems it's creating a new sheet every time I tried. Copy and paste is not really doing it for me either as it's only allowing 50 cells and the extracts are much bigger.
Do you have any other ideas please?

Hi @angelapaj
I hope you're well and safe!
Here's a possible workaround or workarounds
- Premium app, Data Shuttle
- Add a so-called helper sheet where you can copy and paste the information and then have the rows added to the sheet. (you should be able to copy/paste 500 rows)
Would any of those options work/help?
I hope that helps!
Be safe, and have a fantastic week!

I agree that the premium add-on Data Shuttle is the perfect tool for this.
@Andrée Starå I think the 50 cells is more related to columns as opposed to rows. You can only paste 50 columns at a time.

Where have you seen that limit?

Thank you all. I will check the above solutions and see what works best for me. Of course, I meant columns, not cells - my mistake, apologies :)

Excellent!
Happy to help!

@Andrée Starå When trying to copy/paste from an Excel file.

I must have never pasted that many because I've never seen it before.
Good to know! Thanks!

@Andrée Starå It was definitely an annoying one to learn the hard way.
@angelapaj Another possible option would be to go ahead and import the Excel doc as a new Smartsheet, then use a copy or move row (either automation or at the row level) to push the data over to the original sheet.
If you have a [Created Date] type column in the original sheet, you can filter to show all rows that were not added "today" and delete those to get rid of the old data. This won't run into the limit of copying too many columns and should work pretty smoothly assuming you have room in the original sheet (or delete the rows from the original sheet first).
