What has SmartSheet done to the Gmail add-on?

Hi,

On or about Aug 10th, I saw a modified version of the SmartSheet GMail add-on when I went to use it, viz:

The principal change here is the much smaller comment window which only enables at most 5 lines of the email thread that you're working on to be viewable and editable simultaneously. This is shown in the first circled area. Prior to this change, the editable and viewable area took up a good portion of the second, lower circled area, which was much more useful in terms of editing potentially long email threads as you could see more of them while you were editing.

I edit and send email threads multiple times a day to my IT Support sheets. This will significantly negatively affect my efficiency in that regard. I have to ask, what was the thinking (if any) behind this change? How did SmartSheet developers think this was going to help users by restricting the useful area they could work in?

Can I go back to the previous, perfectly functional version of the Gmail Add-on somehow? Please?

  • Hi @gamgc

You're correct - there are five lines of text shown at one time as you're typing/editing text in the Comment box, and you'll need to scroll to see the rest of the message.

If you want to see more in one view, you can click the "See full text" link to expand out that box, although the text won't be editable in that view. After viewing the full text, you can click the back arrow to go back in and edit your comment from the scrollable edit-window instead.

Please feel free to submit feedback to the Product team at any time by creating an Idea Post in the Smartsheet Product Feedback and Ideas topic here in the Community.

    Cheers,

    Genevieve
