Creating a Status Dashboard - Color-coded Widget help / ideas?

Hello all,

I have an idea for a dashboard I am creating to have a simple status legend with drop-downs (green - on track, yellow - at risk type of thing). I created a sheet and report with the legend, so no issues there, but I am trying to figure out a way to reflect this on my dashboard.

Ideally, I would want there to be a circle or square widget where I can select one of the dropdowns from the sheet or report and it would only show that color or meaning.

Right now, I can only create a widget from the report and it shows all of the items in the report.

Does anyone have an idea / solution / workaround for this?

Here is a handy video demo from @Rich Coles of a rather nice workaround for this situation in Smartsheet universe. I have used this and know others to have done this as well. Hope this helps!
