Can't create pie chart of action statuses

Hello community,

I am trying to create a pie chart for an operations plan dashboard.

The pie chart is to visually represent the status of each operational task in the plan grid.

The 'Status' column in my grid contains cells which contain dropdown options of "Not Started", "In Progress/On Schedule", "In Progress/Behind Schedule", or "Complete".

I have read that I can't create a chart sourced from non-numeric data, so I created a corresponding column with an IF function so that "Not Started" displays "1", "In Progress/On Schedule" displays "2", etc…

When I use this Numeric Status column as the source data in chart in the dashboard, it won't allow me to select a pie or donut chart… the only types that do what I need!

I would appreciate any help with how to get such a pie chart, either directly or through a workaround.

I know that it is possible as the previous iteration of the plan has such a chart in its dashboard!

I would suggest a row report that is grouped by status and then use the summary feature within the report to get the counts of each status. From there you can use the report to populate your chart.
