Row automation - add to top of sheet

Currently, when I have an automation which moves or copies a row from one sheet to another, the row is copied into the new sheet completely at random instead of populating at the top of the sheet. For example, I created a blank sheet, and set an automation to copy certain test questions from the master sheet. The automation placed the sheet starting at row 20 - completely random. It took me a while to even realize the automation had worked since I had to scroll down to find the copied rows.

It seems that, although there is a great deal of feedback to implement this fix, there is little being done to actually fix the problem.

I create solutions for my clients using Smartsheet and the fact that this does not function correctly reflects poorly on Smartsheet. I avoid using this functionality because of this fact. This is one of those things that makes me refer to it as "Dumbsheet."

I need this ability to move rows to the top of the sheet via automation (or even better data shuttle). I have linking to other sheets that need to take the information from the top rows to work properly.

Would be great that when moving a ROW to another Smartsheet, that you could actually select where it gets placed, specifically at the TOP of the sheet where it is moved. Manually sorting the list is not a big deal, but would be great if that step could be eliminated!

This option would he helpful for what my team has created. We have a primary sheet that is the intake sheet for vehicle maintenance and requests, that sheet has a copy row automation to go to an individual vehicle tracker so that we can track additional information about the vehicles. I would like the new rows that get copied into the individual vehicle sheets to go on top so that the team can see the new entry easily and be able to move it to where they need it.

I've seen that this has been an issue since 2022. The fact that it has been nearly 3 years since then and this issue still hasn't been resolved is a huge let down. :(

At the very least, the automation should follow the rules of the recipient sheet (I.E if a sheet populates new rows at the top, then the automation should do the same or if a sheet populates at the bottom, then it should do that).

Having the option to change whether a row is added to the top or the bottom but not being able to for an automation seems like an oversight. Granted, I am super content that I am able to copy a row over at all, but its not useful if it disrupts the current workflow of an existing sheet.

Edit: I just realized that the last time the status was updated was in 2023. 😥

We really need this basic feature added! I want my rows to copy to the top of the other sheet and not have to spend time doing it manually!

This would be an excellent improvement, please consider implementing it.

I have been very happy with Smartsheet up until now. We have quite a few row automations, and the feature to add the row to top of the sheet instead of the bottom has been being asked for since 2022. Can we please change where the row gets added? Even if the default is the top of the sheet, that would be way better than 5 rows below the bottom of the sheet.

  • I have an option in the Form that gathers data into the Source Sheet to add to Top or Bottom. When I try to Automate moving Rows from Source to Target Sheet the Default is Bottom. Can we have this option in Move Row Automation or change the Default so that a Moved Row goes to the top of Target Sheet?

  • When using automation to copy a line from one sheet to another, it would be GREAT if when the new line is added to the new sheet it is added to the top of the sheet.
