We are working on a centralized calendar and love the File Upload feature in the forms, however, we sometimes need to collaborate on a shared document. This would require uplaoding a URL to the shared document. The File Upload feature only supports documents. Is there a way to add attachments to the form submission? Would this benefit anyone else?

Thank you to both of you. I have played with proof in the past. Useful, but not what I am hoping for.

Generate Document is also not the solution for my current need.

Will submit the request to add the ability to upload URL link to files through the File Upload feature in Forms.

    Hello @David P ,

Have you looked into leveraging Proof in Smartsheet?

You can create a Form with a Proof Checkbox column to indicate content collaboration.

An additional Contact column allowing multiple recipients is best practice. The Form needs to stress that emails are to be separated by semicolons (;) and absolutely no spaces.

Currently, there is no Automation that can kick start Proof. I think there is an enhancement request…somewhere.

You're absolutely right — Smartsheet forms currently only support file uploads (e.g., PDF, Word, Excel, etc.), but do not support submitting a URL or hyperlink as an "attachment" directly through the File Upload field. However, there are some good workarounds you can use today.

You can use generate document feature, but the “Generate Document” feature in Smartsheet is useful, but it does come with limitations that are important to understand in the context of your use case.

    • Allows you to merge data from a row into a fillable PDF (based on a DocuSign-compatible or fillable PDF template).
    • Automatically generates and attaches the completed PDF to the row.
    • Optionally sends it out for e-signature (if integrated with DocuSign).
