So, we track 3 sets of dates - Baseline Start/End, Planned Start/End (our primary dates in the project settings for dependencies), and Actual Start/End.
Here's the example:
Activity 2 is dependent on Activity 1. The planned dates, planned duration, and Predecessor columns are all tied together, nice and happy. Activity 1 plans to end on December 5th. And since its a simple dependency, Activity 2 starts on December 8th. Like all good things, Activity 1 doesn't complete until December 10th.
We would automatically love to have the Planned Start Date (either via the predecessors or otherwise) automatically reflect the actuals from Activity 1. Since that activity completed late, in theory, Activity 2 should plan to start on December 11th now. But still shows starting the 8th.
