SUMIF from one or more reference sheets

As an example, In a cell, I am looking to count the total amount of "Completed" statuses that are in a specific column labeled "status" on one or more sheets and have it tied to a specific "Category" column.  Would I use VLOOKUP alongside SUMIF?   Attached give you an idea of the breakdown.

    Michael, if I understand completely, I would use one formula with multiple COUNTIF functions (I prefer COUNTIFS because the syntax is the same for one or more criterion) to scan the other sheets and count the number of items associated with each category. You can use the new cross-sheet references to define the range to scan on each external sheet. If you have five external sheets there would need to be five COUNTIF functions each referencing a different sheet in the formula to count the number of Complete entries for each Category.
