Updating dates of completed tasks
I accidentally changed a predecessor for a task (actually added it to a summary task), and the system then changed all the starting dates for the indented tasks - ie, they all inherited this date. However some of the indented tasks has been marked complete, yet their start/complete dates changed. This was probably a one-off issue, but is there a way to 'freeze' completed task information?

Hello,
You might consider creating an automatic lock row rule in your sheet that will lock rows marked as "complete."
Note that this won't completely deter the ability to edit the row, as Admins and the sheet Owner can still make changes to locked rows.

Hi, opening here again this thread, as I can't find a solution. In MS Project, when a task is started or completed, and you update predecessors, it won't move start date. Can't find a way to do it in smartsheet. Please help, this is a big drawback when updating the project plan. And locking doesn't stop the auto update

Predecessors will continue to link tasks, regardless of if a task end date has been passed or not as you've found. You would need to remove any predecessor values in order to ensure your current task does not change dates as other dates are changed. You can provide your feedback to the Product team on this feature through this form, here.
Cheers,
Genevieve
