Sort not working for Editors?
There is probably a easy explanation or fix for this but I can't figure it out.
I have a sheet with about 10 editors that as things move on the sheet it needs to be resorted (sorted by a due date). For some reason I am the only one that can sort the sheet, the Sort option is greyed out on all of thier sheets - I've verified they dont have any filters applied and can't find anything in the help section to explain why they can't sort.
Anyone have any ideas? Is there option I dont have turned on or something?
Also, does anyone know if smartsheet offeres an "auto-sort" feature - where it keeps the sheet continually sorted by a specific column (ie date)?
Thanks

Jason,
I assume because you said "editor" that your users have Editor privileges.
Are any of the columns or rows locked?
That might do it, I think.

Hope this helps.

Yes, there 3 locked rows (which are parent rows) to keep users from accidently editing the parent rows. I dont see why locking a row would keep a user from sorting though?

Try unlocking.
I'm only guessing as I can't test it myself at the moment.
My assumption was that if the sort wanted to change the location of the row, that would be prevented by a lock.

Craig is correct, locked rows cannot be moved or edited by Editors, which is why they cannot sort the sheet (it would move the locked rows)

Any chance of this being revised? Locking data should be limited to actual changes to the data, not reordering.
For many applications there is a need for each user to use different sorts. This is very limiting.

Hi Ed - I would be happy to submit your feedback to our Product team to assist them with future changes to the functionality.
Thank you!

No locked or formatted rows
but the sort row line on the drop down is still grey

Hi Travis,
put my vote in for sorting locked rows.
We do need to stop people changing the contents, but there's no reason to stop them sorting them.

Agreed. Must be able to sort even if there are locked items.
