Gantt Chart to automatically scroll to "Today" on the Timeline

Hi,

Is it possible for the gantchart view to automatically scroll to today upon logging in.

Summary of Problem :

- Smartsheet user logs in to view a shared release plan.

- Gantt Chart automatically starts from the first date on the timeline.

- The user has to then scoll on the x-axis of the timeline to find out whats happening today.

Request :

- Upon logging in, can the Gantt chart automatically display whats occurring today instead of starting on the first date of the plan?

Regards

Seeni G

    Seeni,

    Yes, there is.

Under the Project Settings, under Timeline Display, there is a check box to Open To Today's Date.

To get to the Project Settings, view the sheet in Gantt view. On the upper left of the Gantt view there is a gear symbol. Click that and on the left is the link to the Timeline Display.

    Hope this helps,

    Craig

    Craig,

The "Open To Today's Date" feature works for the sheet owner/admin, but if the user just has "viewing" rights, they are forced to scroll on the x-axis to get to today's date.

Is there a way to make the feature also work for other viewers?

    Thanks,

Yes, this is a bug and should be fixed ASAP in my opinion. The Project Settings seems to be "global" (for viewers, editors, admins and owners) for most settings but as far as we can see there are at least two settings that do not work globally. These are:

    - "Open to today's date"

    - "Start day for weeks"

This is really a pain for all our collaborators as we are really used to looking at weeks from Monday to Sunday here in Sweden but even more annoying for them to have to scroll through years of data to find today's date in a long project plan. This really should be fixed since it is not only cosmetic but affects work efficiency!

    Thanks,

  • Just started with the program and we have had the same concern raised by my shared "Viewer" users.  Any update on this being fixed/changed so viewers can default to today's date?

  • +1 for this aswell. Cant understand why it would'nt be included as a feature for shared sheets.

Hope Smartsheet can update to at least let us know if it a planned fix or not

  • Very much agree that this software would be greatly improved by making the "Open to today's date" option, when checked in the admin account, apply to all "viewer" accounts. Please fix this!

  • I also agree this would be a great improvement!

  • It's been over 2 years since this issue was raised.

Only owners/admins can see this setting. Can we get the issue addressed please?

  • Hi Francis/Other Users/Smartsheet,

We raised this issue with Smartsheet in 2014 and have tried to provide information to Smartsheet since then (screenshots, videos, etc), and the issue still prevails.

We essentially tick the box for the timescale to 'open at today's date', but then within a matter of hours, days or weeks (there doesn't appear to be any logical timing), the sheets revert back to opening at the date of the first entry (ie in the past). This is very frustrating and inefficient.

Given it's been nearly 4 years since we raised the issue, I'm no longer holding my breath that Smartsheet are able to fix this (Happy to be proven wrong though!)

Has there been any change to this feature bug?  It's great if you are the Owner or an Admin on the sheet to be able to start at Today's date, but it's a useless setting if it doesn't apply to all viewers.

Does this fall into the category of being frustrated that Smartsheet doesn't look at the little things anymore?

    Thanks,

    susan
