Drop down list data from column in another sheet
Comments
-
Yes this would be great! Please implement.
-
has this been added yet? it would be great to have a drop down get it's values from another sheet. not the same as vlookup.
-
Just another Smartsheet user looking for this functionality...
-
Voting for this as well. Some way to populate those dropdowns from a central location is crucial for what we want to do.
-
This has been open three years and not added - this is not acceptable. It is a basic function.
-
This would be an extraordinarily helpful feature. Please update @smartsheets
-
Surprised and disappointed this has not been added. Too obvious of an "enhancement". Now I am not sure I will actually go past the trial period.
-
I need that feature too. Include me.
-
Adding my vote for this as well.
Our use case is we want to manage physical inventory (checkin/out of resources such as shipping cases, computers, etc.). The plan is to have one sheet that lists the resources and another sheet that tracks the in/out requests and the status of each request. Requests will be made via a Smartsheet form, and the list should be restricted to available resources (essentially anything in a defined column or range in the resource sheet).
Our workaround is to manually maintain the drop down list in the request sheet, but we currently manage about 100 resources so this manual step - while doable - is definitely not desirable.

Add me to the list of users who would love this functionality.

Hello Smartsheet users, hopefully you will be pleased with this announcement?
We have listened to our clients and the wider Smartsheet community requests for a method of updating data values held in a master dropdown list which then automagically updates matching dropdown lists in other nominated Smartsheets.
Using our specialist Development team and the Smartsheet API, we have developed this solution, Tested it with some Smartsheet Gurus like Tim Meeks and some clients and now pleased to announce it is available to the wider community as a subscription.
So, yes there is a cost and no, it isn't part of the Smartsheet License fee which we would all have wished for, but we reason that... the benefits to having this tool available for those that need it, will be worth our investment in creating it and the Subs will recover our costs of doing it.
Let's remind ourselves of why this solution is much requested?
Why are Dropdown Lists so useful?
- Values selected from a list of choices is considered to be structured data
- Structured data ensures corporate consistency of data entry
- Corporate consistency allows accurate data analysis which can make whole enterprise dashboards more meaningful
- Dropdown list values can be used to trigger next actions in a workflow process, thus automating some manual work and improving efficiency
- Dropdown Lists used in a Smart Form are ideal for capturing new data and ensuring consistent terminology from the end user environment. Dropdown lists within forms can also appear as Radio Buttons, for ease of selection
Anyone wish to know more, or implement this solution immediately then please review this page explaining more...

And let me know?
Other, more bespoke API solutions available as needed. Tell us what you want?

We do hope you are pleased! from all at SBP, the team in North America and the UK.

I really need this feature for project code tracking and management.
My company will not shell out $500 to make it happen, another solution here would be great.
-
$500 for this feature is not cool. I'm pretty disappointed that Smartsheet is not including such a basic feature in the basic package.

Hi all,
Here is a workaround that gives you the possibility to use lists of information and choose from that list inside a sheet (doesn't work with mobile, only desktop)
I'm utilizing cell-linking for this workaround. The main sheet is linked to the dropdown/list sheet.
Please see the attached link/screenshot for more information.

I hope this can be helpful for you!
