Bad Space in Dropdown List in Form

In creating a new form, and utilizing a drop down list, Smartsheet is adding an extra space which users can select when completing the form.  I have created a dropdown test using four values.  When creating the form I can select any of those values as the default...in this case "1".  Then when publishing the form, users can still select the "blank" option in the value.  How can the blank be eliminated so it cant be used?

Try  making it a required field. Its the checkbox in the bottom right of your second picture
