Is there a way to tie a web form to a specific record?
I have a SmartSheet where the user enters the preliminary information via a webform, which assignes an autonumber to that record. I would like them to be able to update that record via a webform without me having to send an update request. Is there any way to create a webform where the user enters the item number and it automatically updates the specific record?
I would prefer not to have the individual users have access to the whole sheet so they couldn't update the wrong record.

Debbie,
Not sure if this will solve your problem, but I'd recommend trying Google Forms with SS.

Hope you find a soluton.

We've used that Tim and it allows the functionality Debbie seeks. Nice workaround!
There are other ways but they involve other Apps via the API.
Good luck

Update requests were designed to do almost exactly what you are looking for. You cant enter a number and see the field but it will allow users to update rows on sheets they are not shared to.
If they were shared to the sheet they could use the search feature to search for the item number then update the field inline, without having to open the sheet.
