=lookup()

Find the corresponding value of data by row. For example, look up a price of an automotive part by the part number. In this release you will only be able to do lookups on the same sheet as the =lookup() formula.

Until this function is usable across sheets, it is basically worthless.

I partly agree with you. I've been waiting for this formula and for the "dynamic" linking of sheets for long. 

However, you can pull data from other sheets with Cell Linking to the one where =lookup() is used (somewhere to the bottom). So, as far as a new release comes in with a "lookup across sheets" (I hope in the near future), this may be a work-around.

That is what I am doing now, but my source sheet changes every quarter so hard cell links become inaccurate and I have to go through an elaborate workaround.  Cross sheet lookup would solve it.

Hi all-- This is something that we are working on and hope to make available in a future release, however it is not ready for front-facing use at this time. We're excited to be able to offer in-sheet lookup in the meantime but know that this won't be the perfect fix for everyone. Thanks for your feedback!

Add my vote for cross sheet lookup (look up name (ID, #, etc.) from sheet 1 and return X from sheet 2)

+1 on the lookup across sheets.  This will make Smartsheet much more powerful and useful.

I have to agree - without the lookup function working across different sheets, tracking things like sales and delivery for various clients is extremely limited. Smartsheet should be prioritizing this function!
