Force Publish links to open in same window
Hi there,
Hopefully a quick one:
Is there a way I can force publish linked to open in the same window, rather than opening a new tab every time?
We have built a network of dashboards + portals that we share externally via a publish link, but as you navigate between them you end up opening 100s of tabs because of the way the publish links work. Is there a setting I can change? Is there an extension to the URL I can add to prevent this?
Thanks for any advice you can give!

The way to make it open in a new window, is to create the link as a URL instead of linking via smartsheet. Grab the published URL and link it in instead as a URL and they will open in a new window.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your response. I am actually looking to do the opposite of that.
Do you know of a way to do that?

Wow. I need to slow down. I don't believe there is an option to do that if you're pointing to a view-only public link. If you use the smartsheet link to link to the sheet or dashboard or report it will open in the same window, but that link will be editable if the person is shared on it and unviewable if they're not. I recommend submitting a product enhancement request.

I have this same problem. :-(

I'm actually searching for the same option. I'm creating dashboards for every single department and all are referenced form a roll up dashboard via their public link. It is unproductive to have so many windows opening every time we click on a different dashboard.
Is there any workaround yet?

Same problem here.

Has anyone developed a work-around for this? Same issue here.

Did anyone ever figure this out, it is extremely annoying and a poor experience for users.

I am also keen to have a feature that allows Dashboard links to open in the same tab, not a new tab. I want all of my pages I created in my Dashboard to open in the same tab and not have six tabs have to be opened in order to explore the site. It is not a Chrome or internet setting issue, it is an internal SS issue the SS programming would need to have this additional instruction the page coding. Forgive my ignorance on how to do that, but would be wonderful to not have new tabs have to open every time I and my colleagues explore our dashboards. Please let me know if this makes sense.
