Resource Allocation

I don't know if I actually have an issue with the Allocation or if I just don't understand how it's supposed to work. 

 

I have a project list that has children.  Each project has the same children (Planning, Design Acquisition, Design, Construction Acquisition, and Construction).  The entire project and all phases of the project are assigned to the same person. 

 

I populated all the children with the names of the project manager so when I filter it shows all phases of the project.  My allocation shows 100% for all phases, but I can't change the allocation percentage, so it shows as over allocated on some lines, but not all, which also doesn't make sense. 

 

Can someone explain how it's supposed to work and/or if something is wrong with the formatting?

Hello Laurie—allocation percentage can't be placed in parent rows on resource management enabled sheets, as they're meant to be treated as summary rows and not allocated tasks.

 

You may need to restructure your sheet if you need those parents to have an allocation percentage.

 

If you have child rows that your % allocation can't be changed on, and they're not also parents, please reach out to Support@Smartsheet.com for further troubleshooting.

If by "it shows as over allocated on some lines, but not all" you mean the little red meeple is on some tasks and not on others, then each row / task has dates on them and if there is an over-allocation on those dates, the meeple shows up - but not on rows that don't have a date that is over-allocated.

One aspect of the "meeple" or the red, over-allocation icon appearing in your sheet: you won't see the over-allocation icon appear on tasks with an end date in the past.
