Is there way to Update an Existing Entry/Ticket Number via Form
IE i have an Automated Number populating in one cell (Creating a Ticket Number)
What i would like to do is in Forms. Create a toggle with logic that says if its new then create a new automated number. If it is an existing number then look it up in the list and replace it.
Initial try is that had: One column for automated numbers, One Column for Existing Numbers, one column for New or Existing, then had a rule if New then use the automated column and if Existing use the ticket number that was entered from the form (via logic). to create a seperate column for True Ticket numbers. Here is where i ran into issues is searching and replacing the column that matches that number. Any suggestions?

Have you looked into update requests?

Have you looked into update requests?

Yes. but update requests will not meet what i am needing. Thank you though much appreciated.

Why will they not? There should be a way to accomplish what you are looking for, but I am just trying to explore other options that may be easier to implement.
-
how do you update request via a form input? and make sure it goes to the correct line?
-
Is it something that the user would need to request themselves, or is there a trigger within the sheet itself that can be leveraged for an automation?
-
This is something that the user would need to trigger themselves. They do not see the raw sheet at all only via form.
-
Ok. Makes sense. So what is the overall purpose of tracking the original ticket number? Are you planning on leveraging that to consolidate the data into a single row?
-
Yes which will override (like an update without versions) the original ticket.
-
How exactly do you determine if it is new or existing? Is there some kind of identifier that the user inputs into the form?
-
Yes, Currently i have it as a single select (drop down menu on the form New or Existing).
So when it comes through to the sheet
Column = New or Existing
Column = Automated Number (This Generates for all Entries)
Column = Existing Ticket Number (this is entered from text field logic in the form)
Column = If New, then use Automated ticket number. If Existing use Existing Ticket Number. This column tells me the (Actual Ticket Number)
Challenge is now i have duplicates (so i tried to identify duplicates but deleting the first duplicate is challenging/my question on how to have it search via automation through the column and delete first entry based on date entered.

So when I submit a form for an existing ticket number, I select "Existing" and then enter the ticket number I am referencing. If I select "New" then I do not enter a ticket number. Is that correct?

Yes.

Ok. You already have the auto-number column which sets the initial ticket number. You already have the column for new vs existing.
Exactly what is the format of your auto-number? does it include text or special characters or is it a numeric value?
